Baseball Practice Schedule – How to Stay in Peak Performance Shape
Baseball Practice Schedule - How to Stay in Peak Performance Shape
Adhering to a baseball practice schedule is important for serious baseball players. However, I am a big believer in having young athletes play as many sports as reasonable and affordable. Playing other sports can help players develop the footwork and hand/eye coordination that can enhance players' baseball skills. Additionally, playing other sports can keep players from burning out on baseball at a young age.
Over the past fifteen years or so, travel sports have become so prominent for youth athletes. This movement into travel sports has led to athletes specializing at younger and younger ages. When athletes should specialize is a subject for another day, but the point is that multiple sports can be very beneficial for baseball players being able to stay in peak performance shape and for avoiding burnout.
Having said that, it is also important to have young athletes whose favorite sport is baseball, to practice and play baseball for more months out of the year than just their regular season. I believe a good plan for developing successful baseball players and for staying in peak performance shape is to add one month of baseball play and practice to a players schedule for every year beginning at age 9. For example, nine-year-old players should play an extra month beyond their regular season schedule and ten year olds, who love baseball, should play and /or practice two extra months. By the time a player is a teenager they should be playing and practicing baseball for up to nine months out of the year. A three-month break, when players can totally get away from baseball is always recommended, even for the most serious players.
Other suggestions to develop a complete baseball practice schedule to maintain peak performance shape are:
1. Bigger, stronger and faster is always better so having young athletes perform age-appropriate speed and strengthening programs is beneficial.
2. Learning the correct fundamentals is priceless. Having players receive professional, fundamental instruction is important. Developing correct throwing mechanics is especially important for avoiding arm injury.
3. The best time to build arm strength is a throwing program beginning after the regular season when players' arms are in shape. The exception would be for pitchers who threw a heavy inning load during their season.
4. An off-season baseball program that promotes fun and fundamentals is a good start before preseason baseball practice begins.
5. Protecting the arm is of paramount importance so a strict pitch and inning limit should be placed on pitchers.
6. Hitters should get in the pattern of using a batting tee for warm-ups and for performing good, fundamental hitting drills.
7. Working hard is always advised but having rest periods and off-days is necessary to remain in peak performance shape, too.
8. Baseball is a game of repetition and nowhere is that more important than when performing fielding drills. Players need to work on fielding as much as they do the other parts of the game.
9. Running the bases for correct footwork and timing is important, as well as for conditioning work.
10. Game play is of course necessary for learning game strategy, as long as a limit on games is adhered to for young ballplayers. Burnout can occur in young ballplayers with an overabundance of games mixed in with practice.
Finally, it is always a good idea to analyze players' school and other sport schedule in order to draw up a good yearly baseball practice schedule that suits that individual.

The History of Collecting Baseball Trading Pins
The hobby of collecting lapel pins began many years ago. A lot of times during the United States Presidential election of earlier years the lapel pins gave Americans a first look at the candidates. In the sporting world, trading of lapel pins began at the Olympics. Collectors would gather at the Olympics to buy, sell, and/or trade. Once the internet came into existence these social gatherings disappeared.
Trading Pins have long been an integral part of many baseball tournaments and team sports all across the country. At the beginning of baseball pins were made and were called press pins. They were made for the World Series game in 1911. Then about twenty-seven years later press pins were issued for the annual midseason exhibition. This was five years after the first All-Star game. No pins were made for the 1939 and 1940 games. The reason for the name press pins was because the pins were made for the media to be able to enter the press box. They were made lavishly. Once the The Great War, World War I had started and rationing of raw materials began the look of the press pin changed. No longer were the pins so large and lavish. The average size became the size of a nickel and the size still holds the same for today. Since 1964, people have contacted companies to make pins for them to take to regular season games, playoffs, tournaments, and the World Series to trade and sell to other collectors. The larger and heavier the pins are the more expensive the pins are. An interesting fact is that the New York Yankees hold the record for the most sold in the United States among collectors and fans.
Today a collector can have custom pins made from $1.10 to $4.80 depending on the size and amount of pins being purchased. Collectors are also able to purchase pins that the company has made for as little as $0.15. Collectors have pins made to sell or trade at baseball games and events. Collectors normally specialize in one certain team. They do not just purchase random team pins to just have the pins. Collectors have certain teams or themes they collect. The hobby has become a serious yet fun past time.
From little leagues to the big leagues, baseball trading pins have been a fan tradition for many decades. If you are seeking trading pins for your team or if you are simply a fan - visit Trading Pin Zone for examples and designs for your next order.

Baseball Power Hitting Tips
Hitting a baseball is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports. It is even harder to do it consistently, and equally as difficult to hit with power. Every hitter wants to have the ability to hit doubles, triples, and home runs but often times they don't know how to make it happen. These are a few baseball power hitting tips and will help you hit the baseball further and more consistent.
Some players are naturally stronger than others but that doesn't mean they can hit the baseball further. The #1 thing that controls how far a player hits the baseball is their swing speed. Studies have shown that a ball thrown 5 mph harder will only cause you to hit the baseball 5 ft further. On the other side: an increase of bat speed by 5 mph will cause the baseball the travel 25 ft further. This shows that if you want to become a baseball power hitter you must focus on increasing your bat speed!
There are a few ways you can dramatically increase your bat speed which will help you hit with more power. General weight training can be effective but for optimal results you want your training to be similar to the movement you are trying to improve, your swing!
The first area I would focus on is the core. To generate bat speed you have to have a solid foundation, a lot of which is credited to the core. Rotational movement should be as efficient as possible and you can improve this by doing medicine ball exercises. Again, keep the baseball swing in mind with every exercise that you do.
Once you have built a solid core and have a good foundation it is important to do some swing training. Find a bat that is around 10-20% heavier than your normal bat and take some dry swings. Wooden bats are usually the best for this. Focus on dry swings only and work hard to make a good swing each time. Around 100 dry swings a day is a good number to start. Do this about 4 times per week.
These are just a few baseball power hitting tips that will help you get to the next level.

Why People Love Baseball
The game of baseball has captured the heart and imagination of millions worldwide. Partly this is because it is a game of challenge and focus. Even a good player who loses focus can make a critical mistake. It's important to keep focus while practicing even.
Baseball is much more than a game however. By learning to play baseball, young people also learn a variety of life lessons. Because of this, here are some tips for effective teaching of the game.
First, be aware that many schools and colleges are including baseball in their extracurricular activities. That is because they recognize how beneficial it is for students to learn this game.
The crucial factors in becoming skilled at baseball are concentration, good attitude, and dedication. You have to keep the attitude positive and strong. To play effectively, players must be taught that they should maintain focus and seriousness about the game.
Players also need to figure out how to make good decisions during play. If you have the right attitude this will be much easier. Trainers should help each player assess their strengths and weaknesses in order to help with this.
If you are training baseball players, spend time with them. You need to help them realize their potential. Make sure to treat each player with respect, and not devalue or misjudge them.
You are there to help the players and the team. Each player should be respected, and should be taught to keep control of emotions even during difficult plays or when the team is losing. Players need this skill so they don't lose focus if the team is losing at some point during play.
The main goal of a trainer is to motivate the players. If you want to effectively motivate them you have to make them feel energetic and positive. If you follow these baseball teaching tips, you'll be able to encourage your players to be the best they can be.

Fun Baseball Drills – Last Man Standing
Looking for some fun conditioning drills to play with your team? Last man standing is a way to help players become individually competitive while still playing as a team. Here's how to run the drill:
Have your players drop their gloves. Using just hands makes the play less aggressive. Have players split into groups of 3 or 4. Each player rolls 5 ground balls to the person to their right. Fielder becomes roller as the players move down the line, and the first roller runs to the end to become the last fielder.
Where does the competition come in? Make it a relay race! The teams rush to finish first, because they get the "safety." Everyone else has to run sprints while the winners watch. Play this a few times to really get your players heart rate up.
Once the kids seem ready to go (and a little tired), switch them to a knock out drill. Have your pitcher throw soft balls at players, who are still gloveless. If they cannot field the ball with their hands they are out. Last man standing, again, gets to sit out the sprint. Players are much more competitive when they know that they can elude sprints, and it's a real reward for the ones that do win.
These drills can be run at the beginning or end of practice as a fun little way to help players condition for quick sprints from standing positions - a key skill in fielding that surely can't hurt a player fight his way to first, either.
At the end of the season get all of your players custom engraved baseball column trophies! These baseball trophies will last for years and will be warm reminders of the 2010-11 season.
